What does it mean? 🤔
The housing benefit is a flexible advantage within Payflip that helps you with your living expenses. It’s designed to provide you with financial support for your rent or mortgage payments, while optimizing tax benefits for both you and your employer. In practice, you receive part of your mobility budget back each month via your salary, making it easier to pay your rent or mortgage.
💡 Thanks to tax optimization, you get more out of your mobility budget than with a standard payout.
How does it work? 🔁
Step by step to your reimbursement:
Select Rent/Mortgage under "Mobility" in your Payflip tool
Upload your rental agreement/loan repayment schedule
Enter the amount of your monthly rent/repayment – max. is your total mobility budget divided by 12
Enter the start and end date
Add your choice to your shopping cart and confirm
Your employer approves your selection
You receive the reimbursement with your monthly payslip
💡 You remain responsible for paying your rent/loan to the landlord/bank
Financial picture 💰
The amount you enter in Payflip is paid out together with your salary every month.
Good to know: you pay no social security contributions or withholding tax on the reimbursed amount.
So you receive the full amount as net pay on your payslip. Now that’s a smart choice!
What if there’s a change? 🍃
Have you moved, bought a home, or has your rent changed? You can now adjust your monthly contribution yourself in Payflip if your rental agreement changes during the year.
Step by step to adjust your choice:
Your choice is now sent for approval to your HR admin again.
Switching from renting to buying (or vice versa)? In that case, contact your HR admin to have your current choice stopped. Once this is done, you can submit a new choice for your new situation.
Example
You had selected “Rent” with a monthly amount of EUR 800, valid until 31 December. You move on 1 May, after which you are eligible for a reimbursement of EUR 1,000 per month.
You edit your choice to indicate that, from 1 May onwards, you are eligible to receive EUR 1,000. You then upload your updated rental agreement. From May onwards, your reimbursement will therefore be EUR 1,000 per month.
⚠️ Annual resubmission: Because the mobility budget runs per calendar year, the employee must resubmit their housing choice every year — even if the situation hasn't changed. The accompanying document (rental agreement or repayment schedule) must be uploaded again each time.
