Extra Holidays: Everything you need to know

Updated this week

What does it mean? 🤔

With your Payflip budget, you can easily purchase extra vacation days—perfect for those trips you’ve planned!

These are extralegal vacation days—extra days on top of your statutory vacation days.

💡 It’s better to take extra vacation days rather than unpaid leave. Unpaid leave days aren’t counted as worked days and will impact your end-of-year bonus and next year’s vacation entitlement.

How does it work? 🔁

Easy!

The days you purchase are automatically added to your HR system, and you can use them throughout the year.

On the day itself, you’ll simply receive your normal salary.

Step by step to your extra vacation days:

  1. Choose Extra Vacation Days under “Work-life balance” in your Payflip tool

  2. Select the number of days you want to purchase

  3. Add your choice to your shopping cart and confirm

  4. Your employer approves your selection

  5. Enjoy your extra vacation days

Financial picture 💰

The cost of an extra vacation day depends on your salary— the more you earn, the more expensive a vacation day will be.

It’s calculated as follows:

([gross monthly salary on January 1 × 12 months] ÷ 261 working days) × (1 + % employer social security contributions)

And what if I work part-time?

The cost of a vacation day is always calculated based on your salary.

  • For full-time employment, we always use the full-time salary

  • For part-time employment, we always use the part-time salary

The value of 1 vacation day depends on your work schedule.

  • Do you work full-time? Then a vacation day counts for the number of hours in a full-time workday.

  • Do you work part-time? Then a vacation day counts for the number of hours according to your part-time schedule.

What happens to my extra vacation days if I leave or the year ends? 📆

Do you still have extralegal vacation days left at the end of the calendar year? No worries: the gross amount of unused vacation days is automatically paid out as a balance on your end-of-year bonus, together with your regular end-of-year bonus.

You cannot transfer vacation days to the next year.

Leaving the company? There are two scenarios:

  • Not all vacation days used: The remaining budget for unused vacation days will be paid out as a balance on your end-of-year bonus.

  • All vacation days used and your budget is exceeded: Any shortfall will be deducted from your departure holiday pay.

💡 So use your days on time and get the most out of your Payflip budget!
